Pizotifen (INN) or pizotyline (USAN), trade name Sandomigran, is a benzocycloheptene-based drug used a medicine, primarily as a preventative to reduce the frequency of recurrent migraine headaches.Pizotifen called new degree Semillon, pizotifen malate, is a chemical synthetic antihistamines, its chemical structure is similar cyproheptadine and amitriptyline, has strong anti 5- serotonin and histamine and weak anti acetylcholine effect, one of the commonly used drugs for the prevention of migraine.
Pizotifen is used to prevent migraine headaches. It is not used to treat headaches once they have started. It is not known exactly how this medication works, but it is thought to affect chemicals, called neurotransmitters, in the brain. It may take up to 4 weeks for the medication to have its maximum effect.
