Lincomycin hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder with a slight or special odor at room temperature and a bitter taste. It is soluble in water or methanol and is commonly used in the form of hydrochloride in feed.
By acting on the 50S subunit of the sensitive bacteria ribosomes, it prevents the extension of the peptide chain, thus inhibiting the protein synthesis of bacterial cells, and has bacteriostatic effect, but it also has bactericidal effect on highly sensitive bacteria at high concentration.
It has strong antibacterial effect on gram-positive bacteria, some anaerobe and mildew, and its antibacterial spectrum is narrower than that of erythromycin.
Staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus and porcine pneumonia moldy body, chicken septicemia moldy body sensitive to this product, but enterococcus is generally resistant to this product.
Lincomycin HCL can be used as antibiotic drug for human and also can be used as veterinary medicine. It is primarily against gram-positive pathogens, and not effective against gram-negative bacteria such as Neisserie gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis, also used against susceptible strains of streptococci, pneumococci, and staphlylococci which usually can also be treated with penicillin or erythromycin.
