Usage: Acetildenafil is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in males and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Acetildenafil is a synthetic drug which is known to act as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. It is an analogue of sildenafil (Viagra) and appears to boost libido and alleviate erectile dysfunction. Since, Acetildenafil inhibits phosphodiesterase enzyme, it can be used to regulate intracellular levels of the second messengers cAMP and cGMP, and cell function.
Despite such promising effects of this substance, Acetildenafil remains a research chemical, majorly used by researchers from across the world to conduct scientific experiments. No thorough testing on the above mentioned effects of acetildenafil have been conducted so far. Scientists can conduct research on this potential chemical to know more about its beneficial uses.
- It may act as an inhibitor of Phosphodiesterase
Acetildenafil may inhibit Phosphodiesterase 5, which means it could block the degradative action of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) on cyclic GMP present in the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels that supply blood to male genital organs. Recently, Acetildenafil has been detected in a number of over-the-counter herbal aphrodisiac products.
- It acts as a Vasodilator Agent
Vasodilator Agents are synthetic drugs used to cause dilation of the blood vessels, therefore cause a decrease in vascular resistance and an increase in blood flow. With further research on the effects of acetildenafil and its analogues on blood vessels, it will enable researchers to understand how it could be beneficial for treating hypertension, wherein the patient has high blood pressure as well as congestive heart failure.
- It acts as a Urological Agent
Urological Agents are drugs used in the treatment of urogenital conditions such as urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction and prostatic hyperplasia. Acetildenafil acts as urological agent because it inhibits the enzyme - phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Blocking PDE5 promotes the development and maintenance of male genital stimulation.
